CITIZENWATCH: On SC TRO

CitizenWatch is pleased that the Supreme Court has again upheld the time honored vision of social justice through the issuance of a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) by the Supreme Court, last 21 February 2017, putting in abeyance several issuances of the Department of Energy (DoE) and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) that mandates the mandatory migration of Contestable Customers, contrary to the intent and objective of Republic Act 9136 otherwise known as the EPIRA, which is to promote customer choice in a realm of free and fair competition.

To this end, CitizenWatch lauds the Supreme Court as it found wisdom that the questioned pieces of administrative legislation if left unabated, would cause a ripple effect that will impact the prices of basic goods and services, to the detriment of the common Juan / Juana Dela Cruz who is left with no choice but to carry the burden of the increase in prices.  We are hopeful that this relief will be made permanent by the Supreme Court.
