Doing good by our commuters
August 31, 2022CitizenWatch Philippines lauds Grab’s acquisition of motorcycle taxi company Move It. This is a step in the right direction as Filipino commuters continue to struggle with the current state of public transportation.
Commuting has been a problem before the pandemic, and it has resurfaced now that the economy has opened up and lockdowns are no longer an official response to the threat of the virus. On a daily basis, whatever the weather, commuters have to endure long hours lining up or waiting for a ride just to be able to get to their destination on time and come back home afterward.
Certainly, the difficulties of commuting dent workers’/ students’ productivity and affect their well-being both at the workplace or schools, and in their homes.
With the acquisition, Move It will be able to boost its current fleet of less than 1,000 motorcycle taxis by at least 6,000 more partner-riders within months. Commuters will have more options for a fast, inexpensive, and safe ride to their destination.
Filipinos already make many sacrifices on a daily basis just so they could eke out a living for themselves and their families. Getting to school or the workplace in a manner that is trouble-free, cost-effective, and safe is the bare minimum that commuters should enjoy.
