PRIORITIZE LEGISLATIONS THAT WILL SAVE OUR PRIVATE SCHOOLS
July 22, 2021CitizenWatch Philippines supports the call of private schools urging President Rodrigo R. Duterte to prioritize in his upcoming State of the Nation Address (SONA), pending legislation in Congress that aims to save our private educational institutions from onerous provisions in BIR RR 5-2021 increasing income tax by 150%.
House Bill No. 9596 and Senate Bill No. 2272 aims to finally put to rest the conflicting interpretations on the applicable tax rates for proprietary educational institutions. With the start of classes nearing, a lot of private schools are struggling to sustain operations and should instead be given adequate support, not exorbitant taxes!
This is a strategically disastrous policy that must be rectified immediately. We call on legislators to immediately pass House Bill No. 9596 and Senate Bill No. 2272 into law.
